“Pineapple Grenade” is the nickname for the Mk 2 frag grenade introduced in 1920 and manufactured with grooves in cast iron resembling the bizarre fruitlet. It replaced the sphere shaped Mk 1 of 1916-1919 for one imperative fact — when lobbed, it would reel away from its target and sometimes roll back to the bunker!

Daytona State student Amber Boutot has a profound affection for the exotic fruit and it was enough to inspire her piece of artwork.

Photo major Jake Torano’s, muse for a “War of the Worlds” tattoo was not the 2005 Steven Spielbergdirected epic film, but the original science fiction novel by H.G Wells, first published in 1898.

“I get all my art done by the infamous “Miami Ink” tattoo parlor, the same one from the reality show on TLC and I read the book a few years before the movie came out. I just had a vision of what these extraterrestrials looked like and they actually kind of looked like the ones they created in the movie.”
