Welcome to the start of another academic year. Whether you are a new or returning student, you can take pride in knowing you are an important part of this college community. At Daytona State College, every student matters and we want to see you succeed.

We’ve made some changes this year in a variety of areas — all intended to help you succeed and complete your program of study:

At Daytona State, our top priority is to ensure you possess all the tools you need to be successful. In addition to our nationally acclaimed Academic Support Centers and writing centers, Daytona State has refined its developmental courses in mathematics and English to make sure every student who needs extra help in preparing for college-level work gets it conveniently and effectively. Our School of Student Life Skills offers courses that can help you improve your critical thinking and study skills, explore career interests and develop your leadership skills. If this is your first time in college, I encourage you to speak with an academic advisor about whether you can benefit from a one-credit hour course called College Resources, or SLS1101, that can greatly enhance your knowledge and use of the library, ASC and College Writing Center.

The Daytona State College Foundation has increased its efforts to provide more scholarship assistance. Last year, the Foundation awarded nearly $1 million in scholarships, and the goal is to help even more students this year. Visit DaytonaState.edu/Foundation to learn if you, too, can benefit from the hundreds of available scholarship opportunities the Foundation offers.

We also mark the opening of our new $7.6 million high-tech classroom/student center at our Flagler/Palm Coast Campus. This 24,000-square-foot facility features state-of-the-art classrooms and a lecture hall, as well as a bookstore, Internet cafe, student lounge and offices. It nearly doubles the capacity of the campus, providing area residents convenient access to higher education for years to come.

At the Flagler/Palm Coast Campus, as well as at our regional sites in Deltona and New Smyrna Beach, Daytona State now offers the two-year Associate of Science in Business Administration. While this popular program has been offered completely online, we have responded to requests by our regional campus students to offer the degree in an in-class, face-to-face mode.

Incorporating our career pathways model, students enrolled in the program may also complete up to three short-term certificates in Business Management, Business Operations (Entrepreneurship Option) and Sales/Entrepreneurship. Graduates of the AS program may enroll in Daytona State’s Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Supervision and Management program, which has received acclaim for being among the nation’s best online bachelor’s programs two years running.
Daytona State’s primary mission is to provide you a high-quality, convenient and technologically superior college experience. Let us help you be successful in your academic program.. Apply for financial aid and scholarships to help with college costs. Gain insight and encouragement from our academic advisors and counselors. But most of all, have fun. Get involved! Enjoy our outstanding athletic and cultural programs. Join a club or student organization and make new friends.

I hope this academic year is one that sees you moving forward toward completion of your academic program. Remember, we’re here to help you stay on track and get to the finish line. Sincerely,
— Carol W. Eaton, Ph.D.
