Random Acts of Insanity is a comedy improv troupe that was started in Daytona Beach in 2005. Performing mainly in Daytona Beach and surrounding cities, all shows are completely unscripted and performers rely solely on the audience, making each show unpredictable and unique.
“We’ve been doing this for six years,” said longtime member Hillary J. Walker. “The Daytona Playhouse, The Shoestring Theatre, Java Jungle—we perform all over.”
The troupe currently has 10 members, each with their own unique style. While the members may be talented, the show would be nothing without the audience. During the show, the troupe will play different improv games and ask the audience to help them.
“It helps you think on your feet,” said member Leo Uhakheme. “And helps with job applications.”
Some of the members of the troupe and other students are working on the beginnings of a comedy club focused mainly on stand-up comedy instead of just improv.
“The idea was inspired by Random Acts of Insanity,” said Daytona State College student Andre Jones. “Comedy is what’s getting everyone together.”
The troupe performs at least once a week at various locations in Daytona, Port Orange and DeLand. For a full listing of events, visit their website at http://www.randomactsimprov.com.
