Daytona State can’t help falling love with ‘All Shook Up’ musical

One for the money, two for the show, three to make ready, and four to go! Daytona State’s Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Art presented the spring musical “All Shook Up,” inspired by the music of Elvis Pressley, and book by Joe DiPietro.

Online bachelor’s degree program ranked 2nd nationally

Daytona State College ranked 2nd in the nation for its online bachelor’s degree programs. This ranking was determined by U.S. News and World Report after surveying hundreds of colleges and universities offering online bachelor’s degree programs. The criterion used was that the entire degree can be earned entirely through online instruction.

The Bachelors of Applied Science in Supervision and Management (BAS) and the Bachelors of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET) programs were entered by DSC for consideration in the study. Continue reading Online bachelor’s degree program ranked 2nd nationally→

Retirement for Pope – what’s next?

For the first time since the Dark Ages, the Pope has left the building. Not since 1415, when Gregory XII stepped down over an issue with who had the rightful claim to the title has a Pope quit.

In the last 600 years, every pontiff that donned the pointy hat has performed his duties, sometimes trustworthy, other times shady, until death came to take him home, so to speak. Mike Curb offers wisdom, support for school

Music industry icon and philanthropist Mike Curb entertained attendees February 13th as part of the L. Gale Lemerand Entrepreneurial Speaker Series, speaking about a wide range of topics, from his own history to the future of Daytona State College.

Curb lectured for over an hour, describing his history in the recording industry, NASCAR racing circuit and politics. His endowment to Daytona State College provides for the Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Arts. His Curb Family Foundation has committed to supporting arts education to make sure the history of music and entertainment combines with present technologies to secure a solid future for the industry. STEM expo wows crowds with science

On February 8th, the News-Journal Center played host to Daytona State College’s STEM expo, featuring scholarly seminars and displays, rocket and space experts and even a group of Science Cheerleaders.

DSC’s STEM Community Scholars Program aims to increase the number of students receiving degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines. Board revisits tobacco ban policies

The controversial issue of whether to allow smoking on the Daytona State College campuses will be revisited March 21st at the monthly Board of Trustees meeting.

Due to continuous requests from students and faculty members to make DSC’s campuses smoke-free, Board Chairman Dwight Lewis asked the board during the February meeting, “To put on our agenda next month the smoke-free campus question again. I want to ask for your support of that. I can tell you, I do not believe that I voted correctly the last time it came before us.” Continue reading Board revisits tobacco ban policies→
