The human body is like a car, it needs fuel to operate and not filling up the tank reduces a body’s ability to drive.
The famous breakfast cereal maker Kellogg’s says, “Breakfast literally means ‘breaking the fast’ after a good night’s sleep. Most people do not eat for up to 12 hours between the time of their evening meal and breakfast on the following day – during this time their energy levels fall.”
Choosing what to eat for the first meal of the day sets the tone for how the body will react and the lack of nutrients a body needs has immediate and post-poned consequences. A college student who has to rush for an eight o’clock class and chooses to grab a piece of fruit, granola bar or protein bar will feel more alert and focused during class compared to someone who skimps on breakfast. Denying the body the necessary balance of nutrients puts it in a state of self-preservation and the body will literally began to eat itself.
Ignoring breakfast makes you feel tired, irritable and less focused. Students who don’t eat before class will find themselves having a difficult time staying awake or paying attention to the material presented by the teacher. A healthy breakfast helps your metabolism, which converts the food eaten into energy, jumpstart and then the body’s sugar and cholesterol levels are regulated.
Students who choose to eat breakfast at the Daytona State College cafe have many choices to begin the day before entering the classroom. Most people would agree eating breakfast so early in the morning is difficult because they don’t feel hungry or it makes them sick feeling. By deciding to make the day better, however, you need to force the food down in order to feel the great benefits of breakfast.
You don’t have to eat a big country breakfast to get the brain boosting power that breakfast can do for the body. Simple options at the cafe are fresh fruits. They give amazing immune fighting power of Vitamin C, Vitamin B, glucose and water. Proteins like eggs, breakfast meats and dairy will help a growing body, especially those who are working out on a daily basis. The most important thing a body needs to fuel daily activities and exercising is carbohydrates. The cafe has an abundance of options including oatmeal with raisins, which has fiber to give that full and satisfied feeling until lunch. Bagels topped with cream cheese or peanut butter is a combo breakfast that combines carbs and proteins. Muffins are filling and low fat or skim milk is good to avoid high fat contents.
Athletes are prime candidates for nutrition needs so choosing a healthy breakfast after a morning practice replenishes calories burned in workout and repair muscles so they can grow. A full centered breakfast could include boiled eggs, oatmeal with raisins or a bagel with peanut butter, a banana and either low fat milk or orange juice. It covers every food group to give a working body the power it needs.
