The Law Enforcement Academy at\u00a0Daytona State College honored 29\u00a0graduates during a commencement\u00a0ceremony Feb. 6, at the News-Journal\u00a0Center. College President Carol Eaton,\u00a0along with faculty and administrators from\u00a0Daytona State\u2019s College of Health, Human\u00a0and Public Services, were among those\u00a0offering well wishes to the new graduates.In addition to certificates of completion,\u00a0awards were presented to students who\u00a0excelled in academics, leadership, physical\u00a0fitness and marksmanship.<\/p>\n
The academy is a Florida Department of\u00a0Graduates walk the walk\u00a0Law Enforcement certified training center\u00a0which conducts its two-semester Basic\u00a0Law Enforcement Officer Recruit program\u00a0six times a year. Upon graduation, students\u00a0may take a comprehensive examination\u00a0given by the FDLE. Upon passing that\u00a0exam, they are eligible for hire as police\u00a0officers anywhere in the state. The program\u00a0boasts a 98 percent graduation rate, with\u00a0approximately 200 students earning their\u00a0certificates each year.
