It isn’t that far out of reach for them, being that they are number one in the nation at the moment.

Right now, the team is averaging 308.50, which are up from last years. When Coach Laura Brown was asked how confident she felt that they would win Nationals, she quickly responded, “I feel very confident they will be in contention to win.”

The team’s special bond will help them achieve that goal. Not only do the ladies possess individual talent, they connect well with each other on the field.

Erin Selfridge, the team’s captain is a sophomore with an average score of 77.43. She feels the goal is with-in reach. “Team goal is to win Nationals, of course. Personal goals are to bring the scoring average down and minimize damage,” she said.

The Lady Falcons have a secret component that will help them with the National Championship this year. It’s So Young Hwang. Currently the number one player on the team, Young is a freshman from South Korea with a scoring average of 75.93. Young, of course wants to win Nationals but her “eye on the prize” is getting to play on the Ladies Professional Golf Association tour.

Megan Garland, a sophomore with a score average of 79.09, also wants the title of Nationals. As far as personal achievements, she wants to “council the three,” referring to her goal of eliminating any three putts during a competitive round of golf.

Garland, originally from the United Kingdom, has a lot of personality to go along with her game. She has spunk and isn’t afraid to mess around and make light of a situation, but she also knows when it’s time to be serious.

In a game that has been losing its “spunk,” along with fans in the recent days, golf could use more upcoming players like Garland. She’s not the only one on the green with some flare.

Mary Dawson, a sophomore with a 76.64 is said to be quite the jokester by her teammates.

“I want to win Nationals this year, and just keep my scoring average low,” said Dawson, echoing her team’s desire to win.

The team could not be more on a right track.

“I’m proud of them this year, they definitely train and play well as a whole,” said Coach Brown.

The team has nothing but love back for their coach. Almost every player, if not all, said they loved Coach Brown, and more importantly, they loved their team. This kind of connection, mixed with determination, will keep the Lady Falcons in their top competitive state.

This year’s National Championship, which will be held in Arizona, is definitely one to watch. The Lady Falcons will be able to showcase their training and talent, and will hopefully bring home the coveted title of the National Championship.

Golfers, watch out this year because the Lady Falcons are packing some heat.

The women’s golf team at Daytona State College said their number one goal was a piece of the National Championship this year.
