SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY \u2014 Offers interactive and rotating exhibits in the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200. Admission to the Museum is free. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. Museum hours: 11-5 p.m. Tues, Thurs & Fri; Wed: 11-7 p.m. Saturdays, 1-5p.m. Call 386-506-4475. All discussions are wheelchair-accessible. Information is also available at www.smponline.org Closed Mondays and on the following dates: Daytona 500 Weekend, Spring Break, Easter Sunday, July 4, Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas and New Year\u2019s Day. Note: Galleries are closed through May 1. Regular hours will resume on May 2, with the opening of the 2018 Thesis and Departures exhibitions<\/p>\n

\u201cFridays with Phil\u201d \u2014 Retired educator Phil Kalfin provided educational tours of the museum from aa 1.m. to 2 p.m. He will introduce exhibits, provide background information and lead visitors through the galleries with 15-minute information sessions. Free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

THESIS & DEPARTURES 2018 \u2014 Starts May 2, with opening reception at 6 p.m. May 2. An annual showcase of photographic achievements by recent graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Photography program at the University of Central Florida, as well as the Daytona State College A.S. Degree. Through this unique partnership between UCF and DSC, students leave this program with strong technical, creative, and critical thinking skills \u2013 empowering graduates for lifelong success in a variety of professional photographic fields.<\/p>\n

<\/a>EVENTS\/LECTURES<\/strong><\/p>\n

DSC LIVE \u2014 DSC president tom LoBasso and new graduates will be featured on the Marc Bernier Show, 3-5 p.m. May 2. The radio show airs on WNDB 93.5FM\/1150 AM and will be broadcast from\u00a0the News-Journal Center in Daytona Beach. The special show is the 3rd annual \u201cCelebration of DSC Graduates,\u201d featuring a diverse sampling of new alumni, from workforce certificates to the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and baccalaureate degrees. The upcoming graduates, who hail from the region, will share their stories, goals and career plans.<\/p>\n

BROWN BAG SERIES \u2014 May 2, 12-1 p.m. AT DSC’s\u00a0Daytona Beach Campus, Studio Arts Hall,\u00a0room 102. Free and open to DSC students, faculty, staff and the community. Bring your lunch and enjoy this on-going lecture series bringing you closer to the arts. Guest speaker Kelly Berning has been working with clay for over\u00a025 years and is known for her whimsical figurative\u00a0sculptures. She holds a MFA degree in ceramics,\u00a0as well as a BFA. Between 2001 and 2012, she\u00a0taught college-level ceramics in Tennessee and\u2028Southern California.<\/p>\n

HELP, THEY NEED SOME BODIES \u2014 The Co-Curricular Activities Department is seeking volunteers to assist with the May 14, 2018 commencement ceremonies at the Ocean Center. There will be two ceremonies this year, one at 10:30 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to serve at one or both of these ceremonies. A volunteer orientation will be held on April 19 at noon in the Lenholt Student Center (Bldg. 130), Room 154. \u00a0Please help us make this a joyous event in the lives of our graduates and their guests. CAF\u00c9 101 \u2014The teaching caf\u00e9 and kitchen\u00a0is operated\u00a0by\u00a0Daytona State College students, under the supervision of our chef instructors.\u00a0Caf\u00e9 101, which has been highly rated by the Daytona Beach News-Journal, is open for lunch\u00a0Monday through\u00a0Friday\u00a0with seatings at 11:30 a.m. or noon and dinner on\u00a0Wednesday evenings with\u00a0seatings of 5:30 or 6 p.m.\u00a0Caf\u00e9 101 features a fixed-price\u00a0menu of $11 for lunch and $15 for dinner\u00a0(including tax).\u00a0Patrons receive an appetizer, entree, dessert and beverage.\u00a0Vegetarian meals are available by request.\u00a0Gratuities are welcome and help fund student scholarships.\u00a0Credit cards are accepted.\u00a0 Seating is by reservation.\u00a0RSVP at\u00a0 506-3859.
\nCOFFEE\/BAKE SHOPS \u2014 Fresh-baked goodies and coffee is served from morning to early afternoon in the foyer of the Mori Hosseini Center (Bldg. 1200). Hours: 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays. There is an alternate location in the campus Library, Bldg. 231, Daytona Beach.
\n\u201cFalcon Fuel\u201d \u2014 New Grab & Go Food Pantry offers free light snacks and small nonperishable food items. DSC students can \u201cgrab\u201d before or between classes and \u201cgo\u201d about their successful day (limit three items per day). DON\u2019T go to class hungry! It has been proven that full bellies build strong minds. Located in the Center for Women & Men (Bldg. 300, rm-227), Daytona Campus. Hours of Operation:\u00a0 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Must be enrolled with a DSC student ID. Staff and faculty who want to contribute to the pantry can bring items to the Center.<\/p>\n

Music Production Rocks! \u2014 May 1, 7:30 p.m. (rain date – May 2) outdoors at the News-Journal Center. Free admission, no tickets required. This is the end-of-the semester performance for students in the Music Production Technology program.
\nOn Broadway \u2014 May 3, 7:30 p.m. News-Journal Center,\u00a0Davidson Theater. Ticketed, see information below. A cabaret-style performance of beloved Broadway hits featuring students in the theater arts and other programs in the Mike Curb College of Music, Art and Entertainment.
\nTICKET & RSVP INFORMATION \u2014 DSC News-Journal Center, 221 N. Beach Street, Daytona Beach. Free parking for college events in lot and behind shops. The Center is wheelchair accessible. Please mention at the time you purchase tickets any special seating requirements. Groups requiring handicapped seating or other special needs should call the Box Office no less than five days prior to the show. Tickets are available at the News-Journal Center Box Office, 221 N. Beach Street, Daytona Beach. Box Office Hours: Wednesdays-Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact the Box Office by calling 386- 226-1927. CALLING ALL WRITERS\/EDITORS \u2014 In Motion, the campus newspaper, seeks students interested in writing sports, arts and entertainment, news or features, as well as artists, copy editors, photographers and cartoonists. Some scholarships are available. Meetings are 4 p.m. Wednesdays in the Lenholdt Student Center, Bldg. 130, Rm. 119. Aeolus is now accepting submissions of artwork, poetry, short stories (70-1,000 words), personal narratives, photographs or drawings. The literary magazine staff meets at 3:30 p.m. Mondays in the same building and room.

AERho \u2014 The National Broadcasting Society meets at 5 p.m., the first Monday of each month in the boardroom of\u00a0 Bldg. 400, which is the\u00a0WDSC-TV station. Adviser is Anita Bevins, 506-3936. The club aims to enhance development of college and university students and entry level professionals involved in electronic media.<\/p>\n

THE ENGLISH CLUB \u2014 A local chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta.\u00a0\u00a0It meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. in Bldg. 500, rm 220.\u00a0 Refreshments are served at every meeting.\u00a0 A movie is also shown at every meeting.\u00a0\u00a0Past films include \u201cFive Easy Pieces,\u201d \u201cAnne of a Thousand Days\u201d and \u201cBonnie and Clyde.\u201d\u00a0 On occasion, the\u00a0club\u00a0puts on poetry readings.\u00a0At least twice a year members attends performances of the Orlando Shakespeare Theater. Any student, faculty or staff member is eligible to join.\u00a0 There is no membership fee, although students who meet the criteria can pay $30 and become members of the national organization.<\/p>\n

MASSAGE THERAPY \u2014 Enjoy a therapeutic massage provided by the students of the Massage Therapy program. Available by appointment only spring semester. $15 for one hour. Bldg. 320, Rm. 138. Call 506-3229 or 506-3185.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE OF THE PEN \u2014 DSC\u2019s Creative Writing Club meets weekly at 3 p.m. Wednesdays on the DeLand Campus, Bldg. 4, room 131. Its website is\u00a0https:\/\/writedsc.weebly.com<\/p>\n

PTK MEMBERSHIP \u2014 To join Phi Theta Kappa, the campus honor society, come by Bldg. 130, Rm. 106 and fill out an application. GPA of 3.5 required and no less than 3.2 in any given semester. In Daytona Beach, the PTK campus chapter meets first and third Thursdays at 2 p.m. in Building 130, room 110. Hours and meeting times vary at the other five campuses. SPA \u2014 The Student Photography Association of DSC and UCF fosters artistic encouragement and professionalism in photo students on campus. TSPA meets the last Thursday of every month. SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION \u2014 Academic support for students enrolled in difficult required courses. It is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and a peer-facilitated out-of-class study group that incorporates study skills with course content. This program targets high-risk courses rather than high-risk students. High-risk courses are traditionally difficult due to their content. Courses targeted for this program: MAC 1105 College Algebra, BSC 1085 Hum Ant & Phys I, MCB 1010 Microbiology, CHM 1025 Intro to Chemistry, BSC 1005 Survey Biology.
