SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY<\/b> \u2014 Offers interactive and rotating exhibits in the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200. Admission to the Museum is free. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.\u00a0 <\/span>Museum hours: 11-5 p.m. Tues, Thurs & Fri; Wed: 11-7 p.m.\u00a0 <\/span>Saturdays, 1-5p.m. Call\u00a0 <\/span>386-506-4475. All discussions are wheelchair-accessible. \u00a0<\/span>\u201cFridays with Phil\u201d<\/b> \u2014 <\/b>Retired educator Phil Kalfin provided educational tours of the museum from aa 1.m. to 2 p.m. He will introduce exhibits, provide background information and lead visitors through the galleries with\u00a0 <\/span>15-minute information sessions. Free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cArt Speaks: Voices from the Community\u201d<\/b> \u2014 Lecture with Associate Professor Jayanti Seiler in the Madorsky auditorium and book signing with the author at 5:30 pm. March 8 in the SMP. Seiler has generated fine art and commercial photography for 20 years. She founded the organization JayantiPictures, in 2017, to promote, fund and produce artist works that increase understanding for the fair treatment of animals. She received her Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Florida and her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her photography has gained national and international recognition in publications including The New York Times, V\u00e9ganes, magazine in Canada, Vision Magazine in Beijing, Edge of Humanity Magazine, Muybridge\u2019s Horse Magazine and Bird In Flight Magazine in Russia.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen in Light and Shadow\u201d \u2014 <\/b>The work of Jan Goff La-Fontaine, who documents women who have overcome physically abusive relationships. Author reception and book signing at 6 p.m. April 6.<\/p>\n

Gary Monroe: Photographs<\/b><\/a> \u2014 <\/b>Longtime DSC faculty member and Senior Professor will be <\/b>featured in a retrospective exhibit honoring his 30 years at the college. Monroe’s photography includes his early work in the Old Jewish neighborhoods of Miami, his location shoots in Haiti, his interest in Florida tourism culture, and corporatization of Florida landscape. The award-winning author, art collector and photographer will retire in May. Reception and artist’s talk featuring Monroe is at 4 p.m. March 29. Madorsky Theater.<\/p>\n

SPRING FILM SERIES: \u201cHim & Her\u201d \u2014 <\/b>This series addressed the relationships between men and women from a variety of cultures and countries. Ranging from the tender to the provocative, the films comes as the #MeToo movement redefines what it means to be male, female and in love. With moderator Senior Professor of Photographic Studies and documentary filmmaker Eric Brietenbach and guest speakers. Admission is free, donations are welcome! Screenings are at 2 and 6 p.m. Wednesdays in the Madorsky Theater.<\/p>\n

HELP, THEY NEED SOME BODIES \u2014 <\/b>The Co-Curricular Activities Department is seeking volunteers to assist with the May 14, 2018 commencement ceremonies at the Ocean Center. There will be two ceremonies this year, one at 10:30 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to serve at one or both of these ceremonies. CAF\u00c9 101 \u2014<\/b>The teaching caf\u00e9 and kitchen\u00a0is operated\u00a0by\u00a0Daytona State College students, under the supervision of our chef instructors.\u00a0Caf\u00e9 101, which has been highly rated by the Daytona Beach News-Journal, is open for lunch\u00a0Monday through\u00a0Friday\u00a0with seatings at 11:30 a.m. or noon and dinner on\u00a0Wednesday evenings with\u00a0seatings\u00a0 <\/span>of 5:30 or 6 p.m.\u00a0Caf\u00e9 101 features a fixed-price\u00a0menu of $11 for lunch and $15 for dinner\u00a0(including tax).\u00a0Patrons receive an appetizer, entree, dessert and beverage.\u00a0Vegetarian meals are available by request.\u00a0Gratuities are welcome and help fund student scholarships.\u00a0Credit cards are accepted.\u00a0 Seating is by reservation.\u00a0RSVP at\u00a0 506-3859.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CALLING ALL WRITERS\/EDITORS<\/b> \u2014 In Motion, the campus newspaper, seeks students interested in writing sports, arts and entertainment, news or features, as well as artists, copy editors, photographers and cartoonists. Some scholarships are available. Meetings are 4 p.m. Wednesdays in the Lenholdt Student Center, Bldg. 130, Rm. 119. Aeolus is now accepting submissions of artwork, poetry, short stories (70-1,000 words), personal narratives, photographs or drawings. The literary magazine staff meets at 3:30 p.m. Mondays in the same building and room.<\/p>\n

SPA <\/b>\u2014 The Student Photography Association of DSC and UCF fosters artistic encouragement and professionalism in photo students on campus. TSPA meets the last Thursday of every month. SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION<\/b> \u2014 Academic support for students enrolled in difficult required courses.\u00a0 <\/span>It is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and a peer-facilitated out-of-class study group that incorporates study skills with course content.
