SOUTHEAST MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY<\/b> \u2014 Offers interactive and rotating exhibits in the Mori Hosseini Center, Bldg. 1200. Admission to the Museum is free. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.\u00a0 Museum hours: 11-5 p.m. Tues, Thurs & Fri; Wed: 11-7 p.m.\u00a0 Saturdays, 1-5p.m. Call\u00a0 386-506-4475. All discussions are wheelchair-accessible. Information is also available at www.smponline.org<\/a>\u00a0 Closed Mondays and on the following dates: Daytona 500 Weekend, Spring Break, Easter Sunday, July 4, Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas and New Year\u2019s day.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cFridays with Phil\u201d<\/b> \u2014 <\/b>Retired educator Phil Kalfin provided educational tours of the museum from aa 1.m. to 2 p.m. He will introduce exhibits, provide background information and lead visitors through the galleries with\u00a0 15-minute information sessions. Free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cCarlos Betancourt\u201d \u2014\u00a0 <\/b>The Puerto Rican native moved to Miami in 1981 and made the legacy of\u00a0 South Beach his photographic canvas. Betancourt has pushed the boundaries of the genre into the realm of sculptural and performance art. The exhibit is a showcase of his most recent works, an introduction to Central Florida.<\/p>\n

Through Dec. 18<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cEn-Light-Ened: Digital Photo Academy Participants\u201d<\/b> \u2014 <\/b>Each summer the SMP hosts an intensive, two-week photo program for young adults, ages 14 to 17. The best images from each student\u2019s portfolio\u00a0 are showcased for this public exhibition. It represents a variety of subjects and styles indicative of these young photographer\u2019s voices.<\/p>\n

FAKE NEWS SERIES<\/b> \u2014 <\/b>Examines practices and ethics of journalists with films from then to now. Five theatrical films depict reporters working to uncover hidden truths and four documentaries address the more complicated issues of our time, including government surveillance, gun violence and race relations. With moderator Senior Professor of Photographic Studies and documentary filmmaker Eric Brietenbach and guest speakers. Admission is free, donations are welcome! Screenings are at 2 and 6 p.m. Wednesdays in the Madorsky Theater.<\/p>\n

CAF\u00c9 101 \u2014<\/b>The teaching caf\u00e9 and kitchen\u00a0is operated\u00a0by\u00a0Daytona State College students, under the supervision of our chef instructors.\u00a0Caf\u00e9 101, which has been highly rated by the Daytona Beach News-Journal, is open for lunch\u00a0Monday through\u00a0Friday\u00a0with seatings at 11:30 a.m. or noon and dinner on\u00a0Wednesday evenings with\u00a0seatings\u00a0 of 5:30 or 6 p.m.\u00a0Caf\u00e9 101 features a fixed-price\u00a0menu of $11 for lunch and $15 for dinner\u00a0(including tax).\u00a0Patrons receive an appetizer, entree, dessert and beverage.\u00a0Vegetarian meals are available by request.\u00a0Gratuities are welcome and help fund student scholarships.\u00a0Credit cards are accepted.\u00a0 Seating is by reservation only.\u00a0 To make reservations\u00a0 call\u00a0 506-3859. The Caf\u00e9 closes over the summer months. Cafe 101 will close Friday, Dec. 8, reopening Monday, Jan. 22, 2018.<\/b>
\nCOFFEE\/BAKE SHOPS<\/b> \u2014 Fresh-baked goodies and coffee is served from morning to early afternoon in the foyer of the Mori Hosseini Center (Bldg. 1200). Hours: 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays. There is an alternate location in the campus Library, Bldg. 231, Daytona Beach. Hours are abbreviated during summer months.<\/p>\n

\u201cFalcon Fuel\u201d <\/b>\u2014 New Grab & Go Food Pantry offers free light snacks and small nonperishable food items. DSC students can \u201cgrab\u201d before or between classes and \u201cgo\u201d about their successful day (limit three items per day). DON\u2019T go to class hungry! It has been proven that full bellies build strong minds. Located in the Center for Women & Men (Bldg. 300, rm-227), Daytona Campus. Hours of Operation:\u00a0 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. This festive production is based on the novel by Charles Dickens. Ebenezer Scrooge, an old man transforms his miserly ways after four ghostly visits one Christmas Eve. Ticketed event. Flagler Art & Wine Shuttle<\/b><\/a> <\/b>\u2014 <\/b>Dec. 9, 12-6 p.m.Running between Flagler Beach and Palm Coast’s Hammock, allowing registered guests to visit different art venues along the 15-mile route.\u00a0Everyone will be able to get on and off the vans at designated stops. Riders can always take the next van as it comes by.\u00a0Art, wine, snacks, music and great people. Cost:\u00a0$20 each or 2 for $35 (advance sales end at midnight on Dec. 8);\u00a0day of –\u00a0$25 each at Ocean Art Gallery. THE ENGLISH CLUB<\/b> \u2014 A local chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta.\u00a0\u00a0It meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. in Bldg. 500, rm\u00a0 220.\u00a0 Refreshments are served at every meeting.\u00a0 A movie is also shown at every meeting.\u00a0\u00a0Past films include \u201cFive Easy Pieces,\u201d \u201cAnne of a Thousand Days\u201d and \u201cBonnie and Clyde.\u201d\u00a0 On occasion, the\u00a0club\u00a0puts on poetry readings.\u00a0At least twice a year\u00a0 members attends performances of the Orlando Shakespeare Theater. Any student, faculty or staff member is eligible to join.\u00a0 There is no membership fee, although students who meet the criteria can pay $30 and become members of the national organization.<\/p>\n

SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION<\/b> \u2014 Academic support for students enrolled in difficult required courses.\u00a0 It is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and a peer-facilitated out-of-class study group that incorporates study skills with course content.
