The Mori Hosseini Center was buzzing with opportunities for students and non-students alike at the end of September, as they joined the hunt for what could be their first starting job or a final career.<\/p>\n
Hosted by the Career Services department at Daytona State College, and orchestrated by its manager Dean Wm. Howe, the event attracted hundreds of potential employees to the grand foyer of the Hosseini Center.<\/p>\n
Starting in full swing at at a.m. and running through 2 p.m., dozens of area employers \u2014 ranging from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s department to Walgreen\u2019s \u2014 sat eagerly at tables, welcoming anyone looking for a new job or career.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe job fair brings together a diverse group of people,\u201d noted Jj Quillen, an Administrative Assistant in Adult Education on the Daytona State main campus. He also mentioned that it brought job seekers face-to-face with possible employers at no cost to them. It\u2019s a place where they can, he emphasized, \u201ctotally come as they are.\u201d<\/p>\n
For those visitors who found an occupation that suited them, they could make their way over to the Madorsky Theater near the exit, where they could fill out applications online and have their headshots taken and e-mailed to them by the Student Photography Association for future job interviews.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really like how all businesses are in one place. It allows you to get a good feel of what you\u2019re getting into,\u201d said student Sean Ryan.<\/p>\n
For Ryan, the Job Fair gave him a lot of helpful information, even allowing him to visit previous employers like Cricket Wireless and Waffle House. Among the many other job fairs Ryan has frequented, he said Daytona State\u2019s met his expectations as he continues his path as an Information Technology major.<\/p>\n
Situated just inside the entrance of the Southeast Museum of Photography, Officer Andy Latimer of the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office greeted students and residents with a broad smile and enthusiasm for his occupation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you have an interest in serving your community, we have a position,\u201d declared Latimer, adding that his department wasn\u2019t just on the hunt for potential deputies, but also for positions like dispatchers and correction officers.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love it!\u201d Latimer said of the fair. \u201cIt gives me an opportunity to see people fulfill their dreams. To see them on your side of the table, to when they graduate in their uniforms.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Oct. 26, another Job Fair was hosted by Career Services on the New Smyrna Beach\/Edgewater campus and on Nov. 3, the Advanced Technology College will host a job fair focusing on Public Safety employment. Coming in 2018 is a general job fair Feb. 23 on the Flagler\/Palm Coast campus, a return to the Hosseini Center on March 28 on the main Daytona State campus and on April 25, the Daytona campus will offer a Health Services Job Fair in the Lemerand Center.<\/p>\n
