Inside the studio, he demonstrated basic pottery wheel techniques for the class while answering questions from people attending the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrowing clay isn\u2019t about strength, it\u2019s about technique and finesse,\u201d said Berning, who has over 20 years of experience working in the medium.<\/p>\n<p>People of various ages and backgrounds attended the free one-hour event, including Doris Tanksley, 66, of Corpus Christ. \u201cMy niece wanted me and my granddaughter to check things out. I really like it, it\u2019s very interesting,\u201d said Tanksley, who is visiting family in Daytona Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Several pottery wheels were set up for anyone who wished to give clay throwing a try themselves. Seats quickly filled with attendees eager to get their hands dirty and to get a feel for the clay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most fun part of this is that it\u2019s a complete and utter mess,\u201d said Alexandra Wakefield, an AA student at DSC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started the brown bag sessions a couple years ago. The Studio Arts department all donate our time to hold these workshops for students and the community.
