Cinematique on Beach Street \u2014 Volusia County\u2019s independent movie house \u2014\u00a0 hosted the Daytona State College Music Industry Club\u2019s September fundraiser, aimed at raising money for the group, as well as bringing business to the merchants who were flooded out during Hurricane Irma.<\/p>\n

Club President Ysa Fernandez, pictured above, orchestrated the event, in addition to singing and playing for the large audience. Some\u00a0 68 people attended the event, raising $200 for the student club.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur next step is using that money to build Music Industry Club’s presence and give back to the community,\u201d says Fernandez. \u201cWe currently have about 15 club members. Our next event will be an acoustic music night held at \u2018Thank You 5,\u2019 an intimate theater located in Port Orange. It will feature both student performers and local musicians.\u201d<\/p>\n

That event will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at the new performing arts facility, 4606 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Unit 2N, Port Orange, in the Ravenwood Shopping Center.<\/p>\n

Established in 2011, the club is advised by all Music Production faculty, but Associate Professor Jake Nicely is the \u201cofficial\u201d adviser. MIC was established to create, reinforce and amplify awareness of the Daytona State College Music Production & Technology benchmark program and the students enrolled in the program, along with the music and entertainment pursuits of the students and alumni. M.I.C. seeks to respect, inspire and encourage its members’ imagination, originality, resourcefulness, and creativity, and the artistic contributions of all.<\/p>\n

MIC\u2019s vision statement is \u201cdedicated to bringing the verse, the emotion, the beats, the melody, the passion, the mood, the vision and the entertainment of music and related fields to the world. We are committed to leadership, professionalism and excellence in all its forms in promoting music, creators, executives and the music industry as a whole. M.I.C. is committed to celebrating success and exceeding expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since its founding, the club has sponsored open mic nights for original music on a regular basis at local venues. Working with the City of Daytona\u2019s Downtown Development Authority, the club has organized and staged many fundraising events for the downtown area providing concert production experience for Music Production students and raising money for local charities such as the FUTURES Foundation and Domestic Abuse Awareness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
