Here, you belong to a diverse body of students whose background, academic interests and goals range far and wide. Whether you are a new or returning student, know this: At Daytona State College, every student matters. We believe in you and want to see you succeed.

This year, you will notice changes and more initiatives focused on your academic success, giving you more choices, making educational costs more manageable and enhancing your college experience.

Perhaps most significant is that we continue to hold the line on tuition, with no increase. The vast majority of fees associated with attending specific classes also remain unchanged, except where necessary due to costs with changes in curriculum, lab or clinical requirements. Daytona State continues to be among the nation’s best values in higher education.

Construction is well underway on our state-of-the-art 84,000 square-foot Student Center on the Daytona Beach Campus. When the multi-use facility is complete in spring 2019, it will enhance the full collegiate experience for students by housing a number of key services, including the Library and Writing Center, Career Services, event space, dining services, study, meeting rooms and offices to serve 30 or more student clubs.

DSC continues to be a national leader in online program offerings. In fact, our online bachelor’s degrees in supervision and management, engineering technology and information technology continue to be ranked in the nation’s top tier by U.S. News & World Report for five years running.

This fall, we launched a new phlebotomy certification and implement enhancements in other healthcare programs. For example, through the use of new state-of-the-art human patient simulators, our healthcare students will receive the best training possible before entering the clinical portion of their studies.

Due to increased demand, the College has begun offering daytime Welding Technology courses. This new daytime option adds to evening classes already in place and prepares students to become professional metalworkers, where they can apply their skills to careers in manufacturing, construction, aerospace, shipbuilding, pipefitting, automotive and more.

DSC has been awarded a $20,000 MentorLinks grant to develop curriculum and launch a new associate of science degree in Database Management Technology by fall 2018. The new program will take traditional database-management technology training to a higher level, preparing our graduates to more effectively mine big data so organizations can make more strategic and effective business decisions.

This fall, we also are launching a new associate of science degree in Broadcast Television Production, which I’m proud to say will give our students hands-on experience in broadcasting live sporting events in collaboration with WDSC-TV and our Falcon athletics.

In the spring, the College will begin offering a hospitality management concentration in its Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision in Management. This concentration will provide an opportunity for students interested in pursuing a management position in the hospitality industry.

We’re also adding an Academy of Hospitality Beverage Science to our already acclaimed hospitality and culinary programs. This academy will lift the qualifications of our culinary program graduates, and ultimately raise the quality of our area’s hospitality industry.

On the athletics front, our men’s and women’s soccer teams are kicking off the season in DSC’s brand new soccer stadium. It features seating for 1,000 fans, a concession area, press box and high-tech video scoreboard. With an expectation that our student athletes will continue the winning ways they established in 2016 during their inaugural season, we look forward to many exciting and action-packed moments taking place at this venue, which already has been selected to host the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division 1 Men’s Championship Tournament in fall 2018.

These are just some of the many changes and improvements we have in store for you this year. I hope your time at Daytona State sparks a passion to commit to a lifetime of learning, to hold true to your dreams, and to keep moving forward with the support and encouragement that you will find here. Rest assured, you and your fellow students are at the center of everything our faculty and staff do.

Best regards,

Thomas LoBasso, Ed.D.
President
Daytona State College

Greetings from the President Welcome!
