Both teams met and exceeded expectations throughout the season, which ends this month.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s\u00a0 Basketball finished 7 and 7 and the team is currently in conference and played Florida State College at Jacksonville on Feb. 25. (THIS WILL NEED AN UPDATE AT THE END OF THE MONTH). Four players all averaged double figures this season.\u00a0 Both Destiny Arvinger (point guard) and Njeri Nelms (combo guard) were averaging 14 points a game. She also leads the state in rebounding and is second in the country for rebounding. Brown has committed to University of North Carolina, Charlotte.<\/p>\n<p>As a coach you basically do the same thing that you expect the players to do. Study your craft, take advice from those who have been there and work to be better the next day says head coach Janice Brim.<\/p>\n<p>Kaylee Barnard will be retiring after her last game due to a career filled with injuries. Coach Brim will be recruiting players up and down the coast of Florida for next season looking for replacements.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Men\u2019s Basketball team is having an extraordinary season as well. Going on a 13-game win streak the men are currently 22-5. Sophomores Nashad Mackey and Dinero Mercurius\u00a0 are the two standout players this year. Mackey is a dependable guard and forward on and off the court and has committed to Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University for the fall season of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNashad Mackey is from the Bahamas,\u201d said Assistant coach Ian Gibson\u2019s. \u201cProbably the best rebounder in the state. Great kid, great person, does everything right on and off the floor every single day. You can always depend on him to do everything that we ask.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mercurius is a transfer from Texas Rio Grande and has had several offers from Fordham,Missouri State,Arkansas State and Murray State. just to list a few.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDinero is older, he\u2019s 22, so he\u2019s been around. He\u2019s got a professional mindset of how he does thing. Both those guys come in and do their job well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gibson\u2019s\u00a0 main focus is winning the state title and making the national tournament.
