<\/a>Hanna Stocker \/ In Motion<\/figcaption><\/figure>Challenged by their professors to create with clay, wire, cardboard, found objects, paints and more, the artists expressed themselves in unique ways.<\/p>\n
Shannon Hare, whose entry titled \u201cA Lucky Flow\u201d received honorable mention said, \u201cWe were supposed to pick a painting, choose five elements from it and then create an abstract of the painting. For my inspiration I chose the \u2018Dogs Playing Poker\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
She used bits of cardboard that fit together like jigsaw puzzle pieces to create a large dog\u2019s head.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to make something I would put in my house and it would be functional,\u201d said Kristina Wasco, who used random car parts to create her \u201cUp In Lights.\u201d<\/p>\n
The result was an exhaust manifold turned into a funky and useful lamp. Although she did not win an award, the piece drew much attention from attendees.<\/p>\n
Nicholas Audion\u2019s eye-catching \u201cGeometry\u201d balanced precariously in the entrance of the North Gallery. According to Audion, the sculpture was, \u201cinspired by Pink Floyd and pyramids.\u201d The piece took first place in the 3-D category.<\/p>\n
Tabitha Gonzalez expressed the thoughts she had while creating her graphite on paper work. Gonzalez\u2019s winning piece, \u201cWrapped Up in Something,\u201d that showed a woman draped in fabric, struggling to break free.<\/p>\n
\u201cI liked the way she was looking away and the cloth was pulling at her. It really seemed like she was getting pulled back from what she was looking at. It looked like there was a struggle. I wanted to choose that angle.\u201d<\/p>\n
There were two categories of competition, 2-D and 3-D art, each with three winners. Winning students were given the choice of either a bag filled with art supplies or a tuition scholarship for one class.<\/p>\n
In the 2-D category, the winners were: first place, Camrin Arreseigor for \u201cSpace the Final Frontier\u201d; second place, Brant Kruger, \u201cCricket in a Campfire\u201d; and third place, Tabitha Gonzalez, \u201cWrapped Up in Something.\u201d<\/p>\n
Winners of the 3-D category were: first place, Nicholas Audion, \u201cGeometry\u201d; second place, Alexis Leffer, \u201cGravy Boat\u201d; and third place, Michelle Walsh, \u201cSerpentine Teapot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Honorable mentions went to: Shannon Hare for \u201cA Lucky Flow\u201d; Ashley Farr for \u201cStill Life\u201d; Kaye Simon for \u201cN\/A\u201d; Valentina Trindale \u201cLa Destruccion de Mi Familia\u201d; Michelle Walsh \u201cChills Up Your Spine\u201d and \u201cWatch Dragon\u201d; Ali Tahen, \u201cRider\u201d; Steven Saver, \u201cAfrican Cichlid\u201d; Camrin Arreseigor, \u201cPikmin Self Portrait\u201d; and Tabitha Gonzalez, \u201cSeabound.\u201d<\/p>\n
