DSC dominates annual conference<\/strong><\/p>\n

From quality faculty and leadership to exemplary practices in marketing and communications, Daytona State College earned high accolades during the Association of Florida Colleges\u2019 65th annual convention held at the end of October in Destin.<\/p>\n

Head librarian, Mercedes Clement was elected AFC\u2019s 2015 Vice President-Elect for Regions and Chapters. The 33- year Daytona State veteran has served as Region III Director, which includes DSC,Valencia College, Seminole State College, College of Central Florida, Lake Sumter State College and Eastern Florida State College. As the incoming vice president, she will support collaborative and professional development activities within all five AFC regions during her three-year term.<\/p>\n

Region III, for which Clement served as director this year, also earned Region of the Year honors, and Daytona State\u2019s AFC Chapter advanced two chapter levels, from silver to platinum designation, based on increasing its membership by 5 percent and leading various fundraisers throughout the year. English Professor Kathleen Lazarus serves as chapter president. Sharon Crow, who served Daytona State for 39 years prior to her retirement this fall, most recently as senior vice president of governmental relations, received the association\u2019s Honorary Life Membership Award. Dr. Trey Orndorff, a political science professor, earned runner-up status as Professor of the Year. The Miami University of Ohio graduate joined Daytona State in 2011 and has quickly become one of the college\u2019s most regarded professors by students and faculty alike.<\/p>\n

Not least, Daytona State\u2019s Director of Equity and Inclusion Lonnie Thompson was elected to lead AFC\u2019s Equity Commission for the coming year. And School of Student Life Skills chair Charlene Latimer retained her seat on the AFC Board of Directors.<\/p>\n

MIC members putting on Dec. 4 fundraiser<\/strong><\/p>\n

Daytona State College\u2019s Music Industry Club will be \u201cRock \u2018n\u2019 the Holidays\u201d for a cause on Thursday, Dec. 4, with a full slate of live performances benefitting the Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County.<\/p>\n

Performances begin at 11 a.m. across from the Riverfront Shops of Daytona Beach, 150 S. Beach St. The day\u2019s music will feature DSC\u2019s contemporary music ensembles, as well as local bands, according to Music Industry Club President Lucas Shinn. \u201cWhile the event is free to the public, donations and sponsorships are welcome,\u201d he said. \u201cAll proceeds will go to the Domestic Abuse Council.\u201d<\/p>\n

The music lineup features: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Daytona State College Music Production Program Ensembles.
\n\u2666 1:30 to 3 p.m. – Special Blend
\n\u2666 3:30 to 5 p.m. – Andrew Williams Band
\n\u2666 5:30 to 7 p.m. – Psychedelic Monks
\n\u2666 7:30 to 9 p.m. – The Bath Salt Zombies<\/p>\n

Special appearance by Johnny Odis Daytona State\u2019s MIC club is comprised of students pursuing the two-year Associate of Science in Music Production Technology and one-year Audio Recording certificate. The programs are housed at the college\u2019s News-Journal Center and include two of the area\u2019s finest performance venues digitally linked to state-of-the-art recording studios offering cutting-edge technology in surround sound recording and mixing. Golf Cart Parade signals start of holidays<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 5th Annual golf Cart Holiday Parade will kick off at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in conjunction with the annual employees holiday party to be held in the Mori Hosseini Center (Bldg. 1200). The goofy extravaganza will run from 2 to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n

Interest parties are invited to register now to participate in the parade. The deadline is Dec. 1. Participants must be employees at the College. Hosts invite members from campus-wide departments to decorate a golf cart and enter the event to kick off this year\u2019s Holiday Open House. There will be no voting, judges, or placing for this year. Each department that participates will receive a commemorative award. The new focus is designed to assist and promote charitable giving and build team spirit in each department. Don\u2019t have a golf cart? Don\u2019t worry.
