It’s as simple as knowing where and when to be.

Anyone intrigued with the idea can find a schedule online at www.daytonastate.edu/student_act/intramurals.html or can check the schedule posted on bulletin boards around the Daytona and satellite campuses, including the Lenholt Student Center, which also houses the office of Co-Curricular Activities Supervisor Lori Lemoine, who is in charge of all intramural events.

Most of these activities are just now getting started for the fall semester, but some kicked off earlier this semester such as soccer, Ping-Pong and flag football. Many intramural sports are pick-up games, so students with some free time can pick from a long list of things to do that are held on a daily basis. This month is shaping up to be one big tournament spectacular.

Although the annual Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament is not scheduled until Nov. 13, there will be the DSC Fred Fathi Challenge Ping Pong Tournament on Oct. 21 at noon in the Lenholt Center, Building 130. On Oct. 7 a Frisbee Golf tournament will be held in the echo plaza from 12 to 2 pm. There also will be the ever-popular hermit crab races on the Daytona campus Oct. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and on the DeLand Campus, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 14.

Last spring, the DSC intramural soccer team won the first-place trophy at the Port Orange City League with a team of pick-up players. David Knight, captain of the soccer team stated that “we started off as a hot mess but we were able to pull it together to win the trophy,” so who knows what it could accomplish with regular teammates? “The most important thing to remember,” said Lemoine, “is that whatever students choose to do to have fun, they should enjoy it and participate in whatever sounds appealing, no matter what their skill level is.”

Following is a schedule of a few of the Intramural events coming up in October and November: “Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Tower” ─ Board games and other activities will be offered Oct. 7, Oct. 22 and Oct. 28-29, in Echo Plaza, by the clock in the middle of the Daytona campus.
