<\/a><\/p>\nDaytona State College is rejuvenating its Alumni Association in an effort to reconnect past students and make them aware of resources available to them. Whether you took one class or many, you are eligible to join. Their goal is to reestablish the group and slowly build up the association. Their motto is: \u201cYour journey continues.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s about friend-raising and alumni-raising, not fund-raising, that\u2019s not the focus,\u201d said Suzette Cameron. \u201cIt\u2019s trying to raise awareness and provide information, opportunities and resources to the alumni.\u201d Cameron, Director of Campus Services at the Deltona Campus was asked to take on the volunteer position of President of the Alumni Association.<\/p>\n
She is a 1988 graduate of DSC, receiving her Certification in Law Enforcement.<\/p>\n
Some of the resources available to alumni include access to the Aquatic Center, Library Services, Writing Center, Southeast Museum of Photography, Massage Therapy, Dental Hygiene Clinic on the Deland Campus, Caf\u00e9 101 and Records and Registration offices.<\/p>\n
In the future, they plan to host events geared toward uniting alumni. Several ideas are being discussed. One possible event would be alumni nights at DSC sporting events. This way alumnus can support a college function while regrouping with other past students. Plans are in the works to start a newsletter to get information out. An ID card for alumnus is being designed.<\/p>\n
Alison Ryan, Office Manager at DSC, has organized a Facebook page and LinkedIn connection for Daytona State College Alumni.<\/p>\n
By laws for the association were developed, then the board was established. At present, the board consists of 12 DSC employees, the majority of which are alumni. They plan to have a student board member in the future. This will be an ever-changing position, giving input from a current student\u2019s perspective. The board held its first meeting April 17. They meet quarterly, with July 3 as the next scheduled meeting. All meetings are open to anyone wishing to attend.<\/p>\n
Alumni can purchase personal, commemorative bricks which will be then located by the Clock Tower in Echo Plaza.<\/p>\n
As Cameron pointed out, \u201cYou\u2019ve come here; you\u2019ve gotten your education. You\u2019ve moved forward. The story, the journey continues. We want you to still feel that connection.\u201d<\/p>\n
