A recent appointment by Governor Rick Scott has refilled two vacant positions in Daytona State\u2019s board of trustees. Stan Escudero and Garry Lubi bring with them a wealth of experience from varied backgrounds, though their appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.<\/p>\n
The process begins when vacancies open on the Board, and a notice is sent out. Interested individuals can contact the Governer\u2019s office and submit applications, which are then reviewed. Following this review, the Governor selects the individuals to appoint who must then be confirmed, along with the rest of his appointees, by the Florida Senate.<\/p>\n
Stan Escudero was born in Daytona Beach and returned here when he retired in 2010 with his wife. He has an extensive military record, serving in Pakistan, Niger, and Iran. He became the first U.S ambassador to the state of Tajikistan, then later to Uzbekistan, and finally Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n
He later returned to Azerbaijan as a private citizen, and eventually became President of the American Chamber of Commerce there, and retained the title of President or Vice President until his 2010 retirement.<\/p>\n
Garry Lubi lives in Palm Coast with his wife, and has three children and five grandchildren. He is the Senior Vice President of Ameris Bank, and July 2014 will mark his 38th year in the banking industry. Lubi is on the Flagler County Board of Education and has served as chairman o the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce. His first term as a trustee ends on May 31, but hopes to continue to sit on the board.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited about the opportunity,\u201d Lubi said in an interview with the Daytona Beach News-Journal \u201cI\u2019ve been very involved in education over the years and I\u2019m looking forward to continuing that at a higher level for the college.\u201d<\/p>\n
