We\u2019ve all seen the headlines and heard the stories, \u201cfamous athlete gets caught red handed with performance enhancing drug.\u201d So why is this drug so appealing to the athlete themselves and what would drive them to put their body in harms way in order to \u201cenhance\u201d their game.<\/p>\n

Steroids have been around for decades. The anabolic-androgenic steroid is an item that mimics the male hormone testosterone. Once the steroid is injected or consumed orally into the body, it begins a new work with redesign. This substance helps the body create muscle-building technology and helps the body remap skeleton growth.<\/p>\n

The steroid was originally created for medical purposes of treating infectious diseases such as HIV or conditions resembling hypogonadism, a medical condition where men struggle with their growth development process. Most of these drugs can cause serious, permanent health issues varying from tumors to reproduction disabilities. Athletes depend on drugs like these for what they say is the \u201cnecessary sacrifice\u201d in order to win the game. However, these athletes have no real perception of what it is costing them and above everything else, how they influence the students that see them as mentors or even as heroes.<\/p>\n

Athletes have taken advantage of something that was meant for good and used it for selfish desires. According to ESPN, steroids can develop side effects long after a player has given them up. The drug not only creates health issues, but effects the game as a whole. It takes away the integrity of the sport. What happens once everyone chooses to abuse steroids? Or what might happen to the player who doesn\u2019t side with steroids and rejects the pressure of it all? We lose the purity of the game and the foundation it was founded on. Steroids create an unhealthy balance within the game and labels sports as a life-sacrificing event rather than a joyful adventure.<\/p>\n

With the proper education of how this drug can destroy the body of players and how it creates a devastating blow to the world of sports, we are able to create a perfect understanding of how to prevent such an issue from rising up.
