Student Run, Student Led

Adrianne Toles-Williams, Managing Editor, SGA Senator of Public Relations

As students we understand that there is no one better to represent the voice of the students than students themselves.

The current SGA board is eager to share some of the events our members have planned, and each wrote a message to share what they are most excited about in the coming months:

Lori Lemoine- Student Life Coordinator, SGA Advisor/PTK Chapter Advisor

“This is an exciting time of year for our Student Government Association. They just completed the annual Legislative Conference where they met with Legislatures across the State; they are working to prepare the Annual Club Banquet in appreciation to all the club’s hard work this year; and are recruiting for the April SGA elections to select the 2021-2022 Executive Board. This is a great time to join SGA, meet new friends, and make an impact on campus.”

Hilton Smith- President

“April 8th-9th SGA will be attending the FCSSGA conference. This will be our final conference for the semester. It is always bittersweet because we have members on our board that will be graduating, and this will be their last conference with us. However, we plan on working extremely hard to elect new strong leaders to replace those who will be leaving us.

SGA has helped my leadership skills grow in numerous ways. I have gone places and met people I never thought I would meet. SGA is a great way to build your resume and transition you to universities. You can’t go wrong with joining SGA. It was the best decision I have ever made.”

Ryanne Gouveia- Executive Secretary

“One project that I’m currently chair for is finally being able to gift each and every SGA member a graduation medallion. Once I heard that SGA members don’t get any type of rewards for graduation, I was distraught. We’ve not only worked hard as a group to prepare for upcoming events at DSC, but to make hard hitting decisions on how we can make the school better.

Thankfully, Lori Lemoine, our SGA advisor, green lit the idea for us to make our own SGA medallion. It brings me joy knowing that future graduating SGA participants can finally wear their accomplishments.”

Kirsten Larsen- Vice-President, Deltona

“As a VP of one of Daytona State’s regional campuses, I work to connect what’s going on between the SGA board and the DSC students of Deltona campus.

One of the SGA projects I’m most looking forward to is the Club Banquet. This event will be virtual, but it’s going to give all of DSC’s clubs a chance to have their hard work and accomplishments of this school year recognized.

I love the idea of being able to say “thank you” to our students for their service to their communities. The theme is going to be so much fun! If you’re a member of a club at Daytona State, you don’t want to miss out on this!”

David Raccine- Vice-President, ATC

“I’m excited about Advising Week. It provides students with important information that can and will help their experience in school. I would love to see students participating in the event. It’s very beneficial for the school and students. There’s a lot of programs and scholarships that will help improve your educational journey and prepare you for your chosen career path.

If you’re interested in joining SGA, I would recommend doing it. It’s a great organization that builds up your leadership skills and confidence. You get to meet some very important people, like former Senator Carlos. You build great connections and friendships that stay with you for life. SGA has a lot of positions available that need to be filled.”
