If you’re thinking about seeing a movie this holiday season or during the break from classes, the newest theater in the Daytona Beach area has a lot to offer and it’s just down the street from Daytona State College.
Cobb Daytona Luxury Theatres is the first business to open at the new One Daytona complex across from Daytona International Speedway. The 56,000 square foot cinema features all reserved, oversized and overstuffed electric reclining seats and state-of-the-art movie viewing amenities such as wall-to-wall screens and 7.1 digital surround sound audio.

“Cobb Theatres continues to expand its long tradition of innovation and commitment to our guest experience and is proud to provide all of our guests with the most convenient and sophisticated forms of entertainment,” said Tim McGriff, Director of Marketing for Cobb Theaters. “We are positioned in the best location in the area and we look forward to serving the students at Daytona State College, the residents of Daytona Beach and the millions of tourist that visit each year.”
Two auditoriums at the theater feature “Cobb Platinum,” which enhances the movie-going experience with breathtaking sight and sound quality that excites the senses and delivers the full impact of film entertainment. These auditoriums are the largest, give viewers the best image and deliver “Dolby Atmos” sound to create an unforgettable movie experience.
Motion seats are available for an $8 upcharge fee. The DBOX technology behind them gives a realistic feel of being part of the movie. For example, when explosions happen on screen, the motion seats shake and vibrate to make the scene more realistic to the viewer. Two DBOX seats in the lobby allow those interested to give it a try before purchasing the upgrade.
Daytona State College alumnus Allison Johnson is the new Café and Concession Manager at the theater. She is a 2012 graduate of DSC with a bachelor’s degree in supervision and management.
“We are very excited for our opening and hope to see the students for opening weekend. A unique feature of the theater is a full kitchen and bar that you can come in and enjoy. Students are also welcome to join us for lunch and dinner,” she said.
Cobbsters Kitchen can be enjoyed even if you’re not seeing a movie. It’s a full-service restaurant that offers creative American Bistro cuisine made from scratch. On the menu are appetizers, salads, tacos, burgers, sandwiches, flatbreads and desserts. For example, Beer Battered Chicken Tenders with Homemade Whole Grain Honey Mustard or BBQ Chicken Flatbread.
In addition to traditional movie snacks, like popcorn and candy, there is a frozen yogurt dessert bar with a full array of toppings. New York Style pizzas are made fresh and are available whole or by the slice. The Barista Station offers a variety of fresh made coffees and Cobbsters Bar offers wine, signature martinis, mojitos, cocktails, and bottled and draft beer. Sodas and other beverages are available, too.
Moviegoers may choose to eat in the restaurant or take the meal into the movie with them. Specialty trays have been designed for this use. They fit into the cup holder and swivel as needed. Viewers can recline with a tray of food in front of them as they watch films.
Cobb Theatre is the first of many businesses that will be located at One Daytona. Buildings under construction now will be home to Bass Pro Shops, Guitar Center Music Store, Venetian Nail and Spa and a variety of shops, restaurants and hotels.
“I’m excited about the growth that’s happening in this area. This theater is just the beginning. I’m a Bethune-Cookman University student right now, but I’m planning to transfer to DSC for the culinary program. I’m so hopeful with all this growth. Maybe one day, my dreams of owning my own restaurants could come true,” said Sharnarrae Oliver, an usher who was giving tours at the grand opening.
Planning to go? The theater is located at 1850 Legends Lane in Daytona Beach, with entrances from ISB or Bill France Blvd.
There is a student discount (with Student ID) for movies that start after 4 p.m. Matinee pricing on films before 4 p.m. is $8. The regular ticket price is $10.75.
For convenience, there are several options available to purchase tickets. They may be purchased in advance online, at the box-office or at self-serve kiosks in the lobby. Joining the Moviegoer Club is free. It earns points for ticket purchases that lead to rewards such as free popcorn and movie tickets.
