President Tom LoBasso recently announced that at the end of the most recent legislative session, College budget priorities were approved by Gov. Rick Scott. This coming academic year, the College is expected to receive $3 million toward construction of a workforce classroom building on the Deltona Campus, to have $1 million restored for the Writing Center and a $350,000 allocation for a new Optician Technology A.S. program
On behalf of the entire college community, He is sending letters and making phone calls to legislative delegation members to thank them for their support and efforts. In addition, he says, the Florida College System was able to receive $6 million restored from the $30 million reduction last year, “So we’re moving in the right direction. The bill regarding baccalaureate caps, new governing board and financial implications for our Foundation did not pass.”
Dr. LoBasso expressed gratitude to the DSC Board of Trustees for their travels to Tallahassee “to tell our story to legislators at every opportunity. Special thanks go to Forough and Mori Hosseini for their enduring support of Daytona State College throughout the legislative process.”
He also gave credit to employees who helped prepare information for legislators, governor’s staff and the Dept. of Education in the lengthy process necessary to obtain the appropriations for these key projects.
