DSC gears up for Homecoming gala, with alumni at the lead

In 2016 Daytona State College Alumni and Friends Association will host a Homecoming designed to get the entire campus community involved to show pride in the institution.  In coming months, students, staff and faculty will begin to see “Save the Date” information focused on late October or early November to stage the gathering.

As the homecoming plans begin to evolve, the Alumni Association is introducing Victor Collazo, who graduated from Daytona Beach Community College in 1978 and will lead the charge on the venture mas chair of the homecoming committee.

Collazo not only graduated from the former DBCC, but is also a Vietnam War veteran. While at DBCC

he was involved in Student Activities and campus clubs. This carried over to Florida Technical University and the University of Central Florida, where he learned that he could work with students for a living.  He obtained a bachelor’s in Education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership at Florida State. Since graduating, he served as a Student Development Specialist at Susquehanna University, UCF, Valencia, and briefly at Seminole State.

Collazo has received lifetime achievement awards from the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities and Association of Florida Colleges and was inducted into the Florida Community College Activities Association’s Hall of Fame in 2010. He won the Susan Day Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Association of Community Colleges Students Development Commission, was declared an “Unsung Hero,” by the FACC Valencia Chapter and was on the UCF Alumni Board of Directors and Chair College of Education Alumni Board, from 1984 to 1990.

His favorite Daytona State memory is riding his bicycle from Ormond Beach to classes then stopping on the beach every day to read and do “some” homework.
