College students may get tuition breaks in the future due to Governor Rick Scott’s executive order calling for a change in the State University System.
A report by the Blue Ribbon Task Force ─ a group created by Governor Rick Scott’s executive order 12-104 ─ outlined a different approach in the way Florida’s universities should be supported, which includes removing policies of uniform state funding. In its place, they recommended that university tuition should vary by specific degree programs in the areas where Florida’s economy needs to grow, programs that educate students for the job positions most needed in the state. Patrolling the parking lots is one role of many performed daily by Campus Safety Officers. Their constant attention to security measures insures a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors on all the DSC campuses.
Long before the first classes of the day begin, campus safety officers are at work. Each morning they are responsible for unlocking the exterior doors for all the buildings. This process is reversed each night, locking all the buildings securely. Maintaining a visible presence is also a priority. Safety officers can be seen walking through high traffic buildings or driving around the campus. Typically, there are five officers on duty at any given time at the main campus in Daytona.
