Alumni Get Spotlight During Awards Breakfast

Daytona State recognized the professional accomplishments and community achievements of four graduates on during the Alumni & Friends Association’s annual awards breakfast held in the Conference Center on the Daytona Beach Campus.

Alumni of the Year honors went to Craig Capri, a 1989 graduate of DSC’s State’s Law Enforcement Academy, who also received his Associate of Arts degree here before continuing on at the University of Central Florida. There, he earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice. Capri also is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, as well as the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute.

The Distinguished Faculty/Staff Alumni Award went to Keith Kennedy, a valued member of the college community for nearly 35 years. He began his employment in 1982 as a part-time custodian, before earning his AA degree and taking on progressive student services and student development roles at the college. He holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and criminal justice and a master’s in counseling education and school guidance, all from the UCF. Kennedy’s most recent role at DSC is vice president of student development.

The Young Alumni Excellence Award went to Austin Albro. Although unable to attend the ceremony, his mother accepted on his behalf. Albro
returned to his hometown of Warren, N.H., where at 24 years old, he is one of the youngest, if not the youngest, town administrators in the nation. Albro earned his AA at DSC, followed in 2016 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management. During his time at DSC, he was Student Government Association president, where he brought engagement and community support to the college. He was a fixture at administrators’ meetings, paved new paths for involvement with college projects and often volunteered for public service projects such as food and clothing drives.

Dr. April Pulcrano received the prestigious Margaret Crumley Award for Distinguished Achievement in Science, honoring an alumnus who achieved an associate degree from DSC’s School of Biological and Physical Sciences and who has made significant contributions in their field. Recipients of this award are nominated and selected by science faculty. Dr. Pulcrano earned her Associate of Science in Dental Assisting in 1983. While pursuing her studies at UCF, she also headed DSC’s dental assisting program before moving north to attend dental school at New York University
