The Daytona State Student Government Association has seen many faces come and go over the years. As the spring semester comes to a close, it is with a heavy heart that we prepare to say goodbye to the current graduating members of the SGA Board. Executive Secretary Ryanne Gouveia worked passionately to design a medallion to be worn by our graduates now and in the future as they complete their time at Daytona State and prepare to soar on to greater things.
The SGA board invites students from all campuses to visit the Student Life Center at the Daytona Beach campus to pick up their respective officer applications, so that they may be a part of the next chapter in Student Government Association history.
The members of Student Government serve as the liaison between the students and administration at DSC, planning and organizing events for school morale and community outreach like the Valentine’s Cards for Veterans campaign and the Club Banquet hosted in the spring and fall semesters, just to name a few.
This year’s “Why Is This In My Closet?” themed club banquet will be conducted virtually so that the clubs, organizations and the College may have an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate their incredible members. Students are being offered a free lunch card from METZ when they RSVP, so students should keep their eyes peeled for the save-the-date flyers or sign up for the Student Life course shell for up-to-date information on what Student Government has planned next.
Despite the limitations of Covid-19, SGA is passionate about providing the optimal student experience for incoming and current students and our alumni as well.
Most recently, the board approved a pen-pal program proposed by the Vice-President of the Deltona Campus, Kirsten Larson, in collaboration with other Florida colleges to connect Florida students and alumni. Keep an eye out for flyers posted around your campus for information on how to register to be a part of this incredible program. The deadline to register will be the 12th of April.
If students have any ideas for what the SGA can do in the remaining months of the Spring 2021 semester and into the fall, they should not hesitate to get involved. The SGA board is eager to welcome new faces into ranks from all our Daytona State Campuses. Students are encouraged to visit the Student Life or Student Government web pages on the Daytona State website or send an email to studentlife@daytonastate.edu to discover how they can get involved and be a part of the officer elections held April 21st and 22nd.
