The Hosseini Center on Daytona State College’s main campus will host the Annual Club Banquet on Friday, April 27. Sponsored by the college’s Student Government Association, the event celebrates students involved in the myriad of clubs on campus and serves to thank them for their service.

This is held separately from the annual Outstanding Student Awards Convocation, but the banquet is an opportunity for clubs to show their appreciation to members.

“Awards will be presented at the banquet, but these are awards the clubs are presenting to various members for service to those clubs.” said Bruce Cook, the director of Student and Co-Curricular Activities.

The Awards Convocation on April 12 will be at 2 p.m. In L. Gale Lemerand Center, bldg. 310. All classes at the Daytona Beach Campus will be dismissed from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.  Classes at other campus locations will be dismissed from 1:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. to allow for travel time.  Full-time faculty and administrators are requested to attend in academic regalia.

This year’s club banquet theme is a Masquerade Ball, which garnered the most interest by members of the SGA and many of the campus clubs. The theme’s colors are red, black and gold. Masks will be provided but attendees are welcome to bring their own. In addition to a meal and awards presentations, there will be activities to participate in as well.

“We plan on having five casino tables at the Hosseini Center with dealers who are trained to host each gaming table and that know how to entertain a crowd,” said Sofia Rivas, President of Daytona State’s Student Government Association. “We will have a DJ present with their lights glowing at night and playing popular music for students to dance to.”

There will also be an area for students to take photos with fellow club members, complete with props. Frames will be provided for the photos. Jennifer Bell, the adviser for Daytona State’s Science Club, has attended several banquets and described it as a privilege.

“I have the excitement officers have when presenting awards to their club members,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity we take to say thank you!”

The banquet will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 27. To RSVP, email studentactivities@daytonastate.edu with the subject Club Banquet RSVP and include the number of club members and if your respective club will be presenting an award. The deadline to RSVP is Thursday, April 5.
