People of the Pen, the Daytona State Creative Writing club, will host a Writer’s Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7 at the Museum of Arts and Sciences, 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach. Although the event is open to the public, it is geared towards young writers.
There will be four sessions offered over the course of the day, covering all aspects of creative writing. Among the presenters will be David Axelrod, Volusia County Poet Laureate, Jessica Kester, poetry editor for the Journal of Florida Studies, Scott Velazco, spoken word poet and music production professor, Dr. Michelle Lee, author and creative writing professor, Rachel Owens and Michael Flota, who will talk about self-publishing, and Racquel Henry, founder of the Orlando writing center
At 2:15, the event will conclude in the museum auditorium with some final remarks. All day, portions of the museum will be set up as an information hub for local authors, organizations, upcoming events and charities. There will be food trucks and refreshments available on site.
