Anna Thorne and Genaro Morales listened intently as James Pearson, director of the Southeast Museum of Photography, gave them a quick tutorial about how to display photographs for a gallery exhibit. They attended Arno Minkkinen’s “Power of Three” workshop along with eight other Daytona State College and University of Central Florida Students and are excited to be involved in the process of hanging their work on the museum walls.

“The Power of Three” is the brainchild of Minkkinen in which he taught the students during a week-long artist-in-residency to consider how three photographs relate to one another and deliver a single, concentric message. Over the course of four days, the students developed a cohesive group of three photographs that would impart just such a message to potential viewers.

“The Power of Three” student exhibition is currently on display until December 2017 at the Southeast Museum of Photography. Pearson said it is the first exhibition of its type derived of art created by DSC and UCF students based on a workshop. “I think it is important for students to be able to display the results of their efforts. They work so hard on their art and where does it usually end up? This space gives them a platform for their work. It is important to support our students.”
