The Daytona State College School of Music, Entertainment and Art’s talented students shared with audiences the skills they have learned and honed during their studies at DSC.
The student recital was held in the Theater Center on campus. Admission to the recital was free and open to the public. The high energy performances included solo renditions of both lyrical and instrumental classical composers, Broadway favorites and musical ensembles.
The different ranges of talent and the diversity of the performance selections had the audience guessing what they would be viewing next. Frank Anello, a tenor, chose the song “I Am Adolfo” from the musical “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
Anello portrayed the confident yet ridiculous womanizing Adolfo with ease by suggestively removing his bowtie and popping his shirt collar.
“It’s just a really fun song to do. I thought it would be a nice change from the more serious songs. I decided to do it to get over my stage fright,” said Frank Anello.
Soprano singer Kaitlin Quinn chose to sing the song “Zueignung” by the German composer Richard Strauss. The song was sung in its original version of German and was brimming with emotion.
“I’m a soprano which is the highest voice type and I have been a student at DSC for quite some time,” said Kaitlin Quinn. “I have participated in every recital since 2008 and I’m graduating this semester, so this is my last one. I will be graduating with my AA and attending the education program at DSC. I hope one day I will be able to conduct high school choir, it is my dream.”
