Take a Chance, Change Your Life

Twenty sixteen. Let this year be the year of chances. Real chances. True growth does not come from sitting on the sidelines. The same thing that terrifies us could be the best thing that motivates us.

Students who are willing to embrace their fears could see life changing results, even when the smallest fear is conquered. Take the dreaded speech class. That class is a requirement for obtaining a degree.  According to an article on Fobes.Com, more people fear public speaking than they fear death. DEATH. Think about that for a moment. More people fear giving a speech in a crowded auditorium that they fear the act of ceasing to exist.

Take the class this year, and take it with gusto! Don’t just face the fear of public speaking, conquer it!

Our fear of failure, rejection, or embarrassment are some of the most crippling forms of fear there is. Taking chances isn’t fail proof. As a matter of fact, it is typically fail-inducing. Realize when chances are taken, mistakes will be made. Failure isn’t an ‘if’, but usually ‘when.’ And when it does happen, how we respond says a lot about us. Students who can find the ability to laugh at themselves will be better apt at picking themselves up after a fall.

Nora Roberts said “If you never ask, the answer will always be no.” Being too fearful to ask is the biggest form of rejection, and we give to ourselves. Proof we can be our own worst enemy at times.

People trip and fall flat on their faces every day. We tend to admire those who have the courage to stand back up, brush themselves off and keep going with a smile on their face. Those are the same people who learn from their own adversity.
