Organization fosters DSC pride

DSC LogoIs anything 100 percent free? Joining the Daytona State College Alumni & Friends Association is and they are looking for those special people, who qualify.

Membership is open to anyonewho has graduated from the Daytona State College with a degree or certificate and/or non-graduates of the college (individuals who have taken at least one course, transfer students and noncredit and continuing education students.

Community friends who want to show support for the college can also be a member. While there is presently no charge to join, the hard work in a class or to achieve your degree represents a lot of time and energy and should be rewarded. So with membership come benefits and events to network with other Alumni of Daytona State College and stay in touch.

Building a community is what Daytona State College is all about and staying in touch with that community is the mission of the DSC Alumni & Friends Association. Another goal is to promote Daytona State pride by:

• Volunteering or attending any of the many upcoming alumni networking events, among them a Nov. 13 fundraiser, “Hops and Vine,” scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Debary Historic Hall, 198 Sunrise Blvd. Tickets are $25. For tickets, call Suzette Cameron, Director of Alumni Engagement, at 506-4506 =

• On Nov. 21, there will be a 2015 Alumni Night at the News-Journal Center for the play “The Dining Room.” Free tickets for alumni can be obtained at the News-Journal Center box office, 221 N. Beach St. Or call 386- 226-1927.

• In addition, there will be an Alumni Holiday Networking Reception at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the News-Journal Center, prior to the “Gift to the Community” Holiday Concert. Again, tickets are available at the box office.

Other ways to show pride include:

• Attend Daytona State College sporting events – cheer your pride.

• Buy a brick with the year you graduated or for a graduate.

• Students who benefited from a Foundation scholarship might consider making a one-time or ongoing donation to meet the financial needs of other deserving students seeking to pursue higher education, remember that you will be giving back to the community that you live in by helping a student achieve their goals.

Being an active member shows a commitment to the college and pride in supporting the programs that make Daytona State College a strong part of the community. DSC Alumni & Friends Association says alumni will always have a place within the college and the college will always have a place in the lives of alumni.
