New basketball coach going for blue and gold

After six years with Daytona State College, head Men’s Basketball coach Anthony Andre resigned mid-season, leaving a team leaderless and with an overall 77-105 win/loss record for Daytona State College and a dismal 6-25 this past season.

Injuries and the loss of players gradually throughout the season served as a major setback for the team and DSC athletic director Will Dunne promptly initiated an in-depth search for a new coach following Andre’s stepping down. Throughout that month-long process, Dunne fielded interviews with many possible candidates, settling on a young coach named Ryan Ridder.

Daytona State fisherman place second in regional tournament – nationals await

A set of students who are part of the Daytona State College Bass Fishing Club placed second out of 80 teams in the Carhartt College Series Southern Regional bass fishing tournament in January.

The tournament took place in the Harris Chain of Lakes near Tavares, where Scott Heaberlin and Thomas Oltorik racked up a total 44.10 pounds and 10 fish all together, using dark gray Bill Lewis Rattle Trap baits and 15 lb. test fluorocarbon line. They scored a total of 987.179 out of 1000.

DSC swimmers taking one last dive

The Board of Trustees at Daytona State College officially announced that it is dropping the swim program following spring semester. This decision was issued due to budgetary constraints, state cuts and reduced enrollment at the College.

“Some of the swimmers are totally devastated. We had mapped out plans TOGETHER with their families which would provide them the best opportunity for success both here in Daytona and beyond,” swim team coach Don Gibb said.

Lady Falcons Are Swinging for the Win

The women’s golf team at Daytona State College said their number one goal was a piece of the National Championship this year. It isn’t that far out of reach for them, being that they are number one in the nation at the moment.
